Sony Music/Columbia Records’ Music With a Twist label has teamed up with the LGBT social-networking site, GLEE.com (Gay. Lesbian. & Everyone Else), to discover the brightest unsigned music talent on the Web.
The partnership provides GLEE.com members the chance-of-a-lifetime opportunity to be scouted by the record industry’s leading player in this niche market. The Music Channel on GLEE.com is a unique section that allows members to showcase their talent by uploading their music so users, fans and now Sony Music/Columbia Records music executives can scout for the best new talent. Whether it’s pop, R&B or country, LGBT artists from various genres will have a chance to achieve commercial success. In the coming months, Music With a Twist A&R reps will be looking to GLEE.com for artists to sign and join the ranks of other Music With a Twist artists, such as Kirsten Price (whose single “Magic Tree” was used for promotion of the new season of Showtime’s hit, The L Word) and the much-touted punk trio The Gossip. With the launch of Music With a Twist, Sony/Columbia was the first major record label to represent the LGBT community. “We are very excited and proud to see these forces join together—GLEE.com and Music With a Twist—to help find and nurture talented new LBGT artists,” Steve Barnett, chairman and CEO of Columbia Records Group, said in a release. “The gay artists on GLEE.com are coming to the site because they are placed front and center, rather than being buried like they are on other LGBT sites,” said Parker Ray, site manager of GLEE.com. “Here they are encouraged to focus on their musical talents instead of uphill battles regarding their sexuality. In fact, they are rewarded for their courage to be out.” Until next time!
