New York, NY — If you wannabe Eddie Murphy’s lover, then your name can’t be Scary Spice. And if you wannabe his baby, well… according to reports from E! Online, the Dreamgirls actor might just demand a paternity test.
The veteran comedian had been dating former Spice Girl Melanie Brown since weeks after his divorce from ex-wife Nicole Murphy was finalized in April, and with Brown being photographed sporting a baby sized bump, the assumption was that the child she’s carrying is Murphy’s.
But during a promotional appearance for Dreamgirls on a Dutch TV show, an interviewer asked Murphy about his relationship with Brown to the tune of-- "So, are you happy with her? Because she is pregnant from your child." His response? "But you're being presumptuous, because we're not together anymore, and we don't know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test," the actor replied with a laugh. "You shouldn't jump to conclusions, sir." Initially, a rep for Murphy denied the comment was ever made, but TMZ.com got a hold of the footage and released it on the Web site. So far, Brown has yet to comment on whether or not Murphy is the father. Reps for Murphy say they do not comment on the actor’s personal life. Murphy has six children with ex-wife Nicole Murphy. The couple separated in 2005 after 12 years of marriage and the divorce was finalized in April. Murphy and Brown, 31, began appearing in public together about two months later and in October, when Brown was first photographed sporting what the tabloids referred to as a “tell tale bump,” reporters put her at about four months along. Murphy's paternity remarks were the first indication the couple had split, further established when Murphy arrived at the New York premiere of Dreamgirls with Tracey Edmonds, a film producer and the ex-wife of Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. She told reporters that she and Murphy had been together for a little less than two months. This isn’t the first time the notoriously secretive Murphy has been in the media spotlight. In the late ’90s, the actor was pulled over by police for giving a ride to transgender prostitute in West Hollywood, CA. The actor dismissed charges he had picked up the woman for sex by saying he was merely offering her a ride. Until next time! |
