This Mother’s Day, moms want one thing more than anything else: to spend more time with their children, according to a new survey conducted by Hallmark Magazine. Nearly half—43 percent—of the moms surveyed by the publication said this was their wish.
"As a mom myself, I've never quite understood the notion that Mother's Day is for getting away from your kids," says Lisa Benenson, editor-in-chief of the magazine, in the press release. "Our survey also found that the vast majority of mothers—73 percent—think that it's much tougher to be a mother today, and I think that's a reflection of how incredibly busy and complicated our lives have become. When Mother's Day comes around, we relish the opportunity to really focus on the simple pleasure of just being with our kids, minus the chores and errands that distract us the rest of the time!" The magazine’s survey also found that 67 percent of mothers got a store-bought card for Mother’s Day, while 57 percent got a store-bought gift. More than 51 percent of moms feel their kids have a better quality of life than they did. Eighty-five percent of moms felt they were as good, or even better, than their own mothers. (With this in mind, it’s interesting, then, to note that 46 percent of respondents said they frequently parent just like their mom and 52 percent said they have asked mom for advice on how to parent.) Three hundred and fifty mothers were polled via the Hallmark Idea Exchange from March 28-April 7, 2007. You can read about further results from this survey on www.HallmarkMagazine.com .
