ImageStarring Alexandra Paul (BayWatch), the here! original film Trapped is a breezy, entertaining story of intrigue and suspense. Directed by Rex Piano and written by Jason Preston and Peter Sullivan, Trapped is currently playing on the here! television network .

Samantha (Paul) is an intrepid Internet security expert struggling to balance work, her relationship with her girlfriend and raising her temperamental 16-year old daughter, Gwen (Tatiana Maslany). While on their way to a spa to spend much-needed mother/daughter quality time, Samantha and Gwen are kidnapped by the mysterious Adrien (Dennis Christopher).

Using Gwen as leverage, Adrien forces Samantha to hack her way into an FBI database and locate a woman hidden in the Witness Protection Program. In a race against time, Samantha must break free of her kidnappers, save her daughter and foil Adrien’s plot to hunt down and kill the witness.

Hottie Michelle Wolff (Dante’s Cove, Mango Kiss) and Paul make a delicious on-screen couple, though Wolff seems more like the type to go rescuing damsels in distress than Paul. Other than a bit of bonding over breakfast, a kiss here and there and a few scenes of mother/daughter angst over the new girlfriend, the lesbian aspect of the film is mostly an aside. Although it would have been nice to see more of Paul and Wolff as a couple, it’s also refreshing to see a ‘lesbian’ film that includes its characters’ sexuality as just a given.

Mission Impossible (the series) star Barbara Bain gives a delightful if extremely brief performance as the evil mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder plot. More of Bain would have been lovely as her henchmen are not nearly as interesting to observe.

Maslany as the overly smart, mouthy daughter gives a fine touch of desperation and rebellious fire to her character—making her perhaps the most interesting minor character besides Bain in the film.

For those who love the guilty pleasure of watching Lifetime movie marathons, Trapped will be just your cup of tea, with the bonus of a lesbian lead.
