In his latest effort to appease the gay masses, embattled Grey’s Anatomy star Isaiah Washington will appear in a public service announcement on behalf of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network.
Washington, who came under fire after using an anti-gay slur to describe gay co-star T.R. Knight, has been working damage control overtime to repair his public image and to satisfy members of the gay advocates who called upon NBC to yank him from the hit TV series. "With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I've opened," Washington said following the incident in January. After issuing numerous, similar public apologies, Washington kept his promise by meeting with gay advocacy leaders and entering into a counseling program geared toward treating anger management issues. He also hired gay public relations guru Howard Bragman to help rebuild his damaged crediblity. People magazine reported last October that Washington had allegedly used the slur during an on-set tussle with co-star Patrick Dempsey. Then later, at a Golden Globe Awards press conference, he slipped up a second time by using the slur again. According to E! News, GLAAD isn't yet commenting on the content for Washington's PSA, but it will presumably take all of the above into consideration. "We're gonna have - I want to say at least two versions of it at this point. We may broaden our message a little," Bragman said in a statement. Until next time!
