The birth of this service was a direct response to the need for the women in our queer community to feel safer at night. RightRides operates a volunteer fleet, sponsored by ZIPCAR , which tours Manhattan and Brooklyn neighborhoods every Saturday night between 12AM-3AM. If you've ever seen ZIPCARS in gay pride celebrations, Outdistrict is vouching for the fact that they DO contribute to our LGBT community. So far, they've donated a total of 3 vehicles to the program.
Okay, this is how it works: Your ride must start and end within the zoned neighborhoods they currently serve. The Dispatch hotline (only active between 12AM-3AM) is (718) 964-7781. One of those really cool ZIPCARS comes to pick you up and drive you home safely. FOR FREE. That's it. The program is simple, but serves a very important need. We've heard about recent attacks in Williamsburg(BK) against women very late at night and were concerned for our own friends and loved ones. It's nice to know that the community is looking out for us. So when the party is over and you're thinking of just walking home, call RightRides.
