I am running to end corporate control of political campaigns, ensure our voting machines are accurate, increasing political diversity at the ballot box, and protect the rights of Gay and Lesbian couples.
My name is Forrest Hill and I'm running for the office of Secretary of State of California. As it turns out I am only the second openly gay candidate in California history to seek statewide office. The Secretary of State is California’s chief elections officer, with the responsibility of ensuring that our elections are conducted fairly and efficiently.
Given the radical right's current use of the ballot initiative process to promote narrow and discriminatory agendas, it is especially important to have a Secretary of State who has the power, the expertise and the motivation to protect the rights of lesbian and gay citizens.
My election would be a historic event in our nation's history. It would give our community direct access at the highest levels of state and federal government and will shatter the litmus test of heterosexuality that has prevented highly qualified citizens from attaining the highest state-level political offices.
My candidacy is starting to get real traction, especial among gay leaders in San Francisco. Below are several links to recent articles in the Gay Press on my campaign, including the Bay Area Reporter, the largest LGBT publication in San Francisco.
I am planning to run several TV commercials in October to help raise awareness about my campaign. As far as my qualifications, I have a Ph.D from M.I.T. in marine biology. I currently work as a financial advisor specializing in Socially Responsible Investing. I am also endorsed by several elected officials including SF Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, former President SF Board of Supervisors Matt Gonzalez, and MAPA president Nativo Lopez (see Candidate Endorsements for a complete list)
